What to look for when Hiring?

Anyway, I was hoping some repected companies could give some advice on what to look for in an employee. More importantly how should I interview them in a way I can really get a sense of who they are?

Well, it varies, are you interviewing them online, or in person? If online, you must get credible references, try keep freelances as much as possible, dont get stuck into a contract unless you really know them. If in person, check references in on the CV dont ring mobile numbers, always check their grades, make sure they are OVER qualified for the job as you dont want to spend 3 months training this person,then have them quit after this to get a better paid job as you have super qualified them. Dont hire online as you could be hiring some 13 year old.

Well since I only operate a small webdesign firm I look for someone who is very skilled in what they do. As star said check their referances. Having an over qualified employee is definately best. I also like people with really good people skills. When you're only a small firm everyone deals with clients and they need to be able to speak to them well and make them know that we're respectable decent people operating a respectable decent company.
