Please introduce yourself.
James Cornman, President of CRNC
How did you go about starting CRNC?
After 5 years at a regional Internet Service Provider, my ambition grew as well as the hopes of starting my own business where I can call all of the shots. 2.5 years later, CRNC is flourishing and growing exponentially.
Why did you choose the name CRNC?
I wanted a name that stood out. Even at the expense of getting writers cramps when filling out legal information. CRNC stands for "Completely Reliable Network Concepts". We established our goal, and what we provide within our name.
What about web hosting sparked your interest?
I'm a very engineering-centric person. The idea of a fully automated, smooth operating hosting setup was on my mind after developing a stripped down system similar to today’s common control panels. Add business management on top of that, and the potential of revenue, it was a no-brainer
There are thousands of dedicated server companies out there. In your opinion, what makes CRNC stand out?
Support. We strive for clients who are not necessarily out for the best price, but rather for the best value. The support we provide is more geared to our customers specific needs. We don't mind holding our customers hands to get to the common end result. Smooth sailing.
What are CRNC's short-term goals?
Consistent growth and expansion to other markets. For example, we're developing a Voice over IP product for business customers.
What are CRNC's long-term goals?
CRNC's long term goals are to formulate a large enough company to treat our employees and customers as well as possible. Employees, in addition to customers, make the whole process work. Without either, our operation would fail. I foresee additional growth, additional employees and additional service offerings in our future.
How many employees does CRNC currently have?
Currently their are 2 official employees, with several other consultants available.
The best advice you have for someone who is just starting a hosting company?
Be true to yourself. Know your limits. Do not extend the truth just to get a sale. Being honest and straight forward may not get you the sale, but you'll end up with a similar reputation to ours. This has become invaluable to our business for the long run. Years ago, it was tough, but it’s getting easier month by month now that we've laid the proper foundation.
Is there a fun part to the business? If so, what is it?
Of course. Having to do most of the work for a better part of 2 years, I've been forced to take some things a bit lighter than I should to ensure that my sanity remains in tact. Also, being able to sponsor events and (almost, it didn't pan out) a recreational sports team brings a bit of fun to it.
Other than being in the web hosting industry, what would you want do as a profession?
Since a wee lad I've expressed an interest in building architecture and such. As a hobby I dabble with music (playing, recording). Who knows. Should CRNC outgrow me, perhaps I'll pursue one of those or maybe both.
Thanks for taking time to do this interview. Last question: describe CRNC in one sentence.
My vision coming true.
